How Does Kinesio Tape Work?
The unique combination of thinness, elasticity and adhesive wave pattern allows Kinesio Tape to microscopically lift the skin, creating a space between the skin and the underlying tissues. This relieves pressure and irritation on the underlying pain receptors, which can lead to a rapid relief of pain. It also reduces pressure on the lymphatic drainage system, allowing it to more effectively remove fluid causing swelling and edema. How is KinesioTape Used?
When used as a therapeutic tape, Kinesio Tex Tape, can rapidly relieve pain from both acute injuries and chronic conditions, as well as reduce swelling and inflammation. The Kinesio Taping method is an approach to therapeutic taping that involves taping over and around muscles and joints, rather than wrapping them tightly as conventional athletic taping does. This allows for enhanced circulation and removal of lymphatic fluid from a painful, swollen injury, accelerating the healing process.
What is Kinesio Tape Made From?
Kinesio Tape is made of 100% high grade cotton for comfort and breathability and contains no latex or medications. The backing contains a light, medical-grade adhesive made of 100% hypoallergenic acrylic. The adhesive is heat-activated – simply apply to the skin and rub briskly to activate. It is easily removed and leaves no sticky residue. Moisture dissipates quickly through the porous material of the tape, allowing it to withstand sweating, showering and even swimming without coming off or irritating skin. Unlike traditional athletic tape, most Kinesio® Tex Tape applications can be worn for 3-5 days. This allows the therapeutic benefits to continue, 24 hours per day.
What Makes Kinesio Tape Special?
Because KinesioTape has an almost identical thickness and elasticity as human skin, it is completely comfortable to wear. It does not compress, bind or chaffe sensitive areas.
